Gordon Wood is a man steeped in the roots tradition. He began playing bass guitar and singing as a teenager in Chippenham, Wiltshire, and his first band was a rhythn & blues outfit, The Gremlins, his earliest influences being The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Bo Dlddley, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed.

Relocating to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the 1970s Wood formed The Road Runners who started out playing rhythm & blues but expanded their repertoire to include original songs, Dylan numbers and country influenced material.

In the 1990s he was the driving force behind The Detonators, featuring more of his own songs and a broadening of influences including Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Rockpile and Elvis Costello. Among the artists The Detonators played support to during these times were Geno Washington, Dr Feelgood, Steve Marriot, Edwin Starr, Wilco Johnson and Steve Gibbons.

More recently, Wood has fronted his own band, played some solo gigs and has suppoted the Dale Watson Band from Texas and Stacey Earle (sister of Steve).

Currently, he's concentrating on live session work in the Gloucestershire area, playing a few gigs with ex-Detonators guitarist Phil Bird and on songwritng, still building on impeccable music credetials.
